Spring is here!

Sorry I havnt been posting anything for the last few days! I've been posting on my season thread on one of the goalie forums. Heres a link : http://www.goaliecrease.net/locker-room/2061-2010-2011-season-thread-cappy83.html

Anyway! We are in our first best of 5 series for the playoffs. And as of now we stand tied. The last game ended in a tie so actually it should be 2 W, 1 L, 1 T. So I guess its 4-4? Shit idk LOL all I know is tonights game is the tie breaker. If we win we go onto the semi finals, if we lose we are done.

Outside of hockey ive been SUPER busy! Show season is fast approaching! With our first being this saturday in Walla Walla. We are only taking two horses. Our senior stallion Tango and my Dutch WB mare Fancy. Its just a schooling show so im not overly worried! Nice breeches, tall boots, spurs and farm hoody! Love being able to dress semi casual lol especially since it will prolly rain the WHOLE time!

Uhg im so tired! I was down with a major nasty migraine today and had NO Excedrin so I had to wait till mom got home since she was nice enough to pick me up some on her way home. Then she locked her keys in the car at Walmart lol So that made her even later getting home lol

Its 5.45 pm and I still have to finish cleaning stalls grrrrr. Cant wait till it gets warmer at night so everyone aside from our stallions can stay outside at night! Pain in the ass trying to clean 12 stalls all by myself twice a day...Yes TWICE a day! Another reason I hate winter!

Our arena is FINALLY no longer flooded so I can ride in it! WOOT! Now Jasper cant take off with me! Stupid Arab! Jasper is a 5 yr old Polish Arabian we have in for training and he can be quite a nut case! But hes starting to come around. Beautiful boy, and has A LOT of potential for the show ring in Hunters but damn he needs to get over his fear of EVERYTHING before I even think of riding him at a show. Especially over fences! Heres a picture:

Isnt he pretty? Hes by World Champion stallion Essteem and out of Egala. Heres a pic of his Dam:

And below is a picture of his Sire. I LOVE his Sire! One of my fav. Polish stallions!

But yeah....I should post more pics of our herd for you guys! Let me know if you want me to! Anyway I need to get my butt outside! So LATERS!

Fridays game

So even tho I started a thread on the forum I post on i'm still going to post this here.

Anyway so Tony started for me Friday night since im grounded until I go back to the dr on tuesday. I feel 110% better though! Everything is almost cleared up except my cough which is still pretty bad in the mornings. But I no longer have any issues walking, running, doing work outside etc. The strep is pretty much gone YAY as is the laryngitis tho if I talk alot I still lose my voice.

So Friday morning it was really nice out here so I took one of my young horses out for a trail ride and we galloped through the back feild which was so fun! And he was a good boy. No bucking or spooking. Then around 2 mom and I went into town and got some shopping done. Including a new set of show tack for the stud man (our senior stallion). Then we picked my hubby up at work at 5pm and headed over to the rink to meet up with Tony and Big Mike. So mom and hubby dropped me off and went back home to feed our herd.

I kept Tony company while Big Mike slept off his hang over from the night before in our locker room (since no one was in it before our game YAYs!) So Tony and I hug out and watched the two games before ours. Around 8 pm he left me to get dressed. Our game was at 9:15 on rink 1 YAY I didnt freeze! While I waited for the game to start I finished up entry forms for our next set of 8 horse shows! That took forever as we are taking 8 horses to each show. So I had to fill our 8 entry forms for each show. Then finally it was time for the warm up.

As I watched my boys I was amazed at just how good Tony is. But I love that he dosnt brag or get a big head over it. Then after the warms up Coach came over and asked me if I would keep track of Tonys stats. I said sure, no prob. He handed me the stat book and the game started.

For those who dont read my blog this team we played we lost to 3 times before. Not terribly but we still lost. And after the incident at our team dinner at Applebees we were all expecting a game full of cheap shots. And the Post Falls D-bags didnt disappoint.

In the first period they had a total of 8 penalty's. We had two. One for hooking and one for roughing. We also got on the board first. At the end of the first the score was 3-0. And the d-bags were visibly upset. Which only made my boys play THAT much better. In the 1st they had 28 shots, and we had 15. Tony was on fire!

Durring the 5 min intermission to scrape the ice a bunch of people came over and asked me why I wasnt playing. They all seemed disappointed which made me feel bad because they didnt like the fact that Tony was playing.

Then in the 2nd period things started to heat up. Penalty after penalty after penalty was called. Hooking, tripping, slashing, to many men on the ice (us), roughing, and then with 3:21 left in the 2nd the first of 3 fights happen.

This one was because someone took a nasty cheap shot at Big Mike who proceeded to beat the snot out of the guy. They both got 5 min penalty's for fighting. At the end of the 2nd the score was 4-0. So by the end of the 2nd they were very frustrated considering by the time the 3rd period came is past games they were up by at least 3.

So understandably the 3rd period was very physical. Lots of hard but clean hits. And some REALLY lucky saves by both goaltenders. The 2nd fight happend at about 10 mins into it. This time it was started because Tony did a very pretty split save after getting caught behind the net. One of our guys was triped and Tony fell over backwards over him behind the net. Then somehow he was able to make it back to the net in time to make a very pretty split glove save. This caused one of the post falls guys to take a shot at Tony. Which started a fight. Took the 4 refs a good 5 mins to break it up. The guy who took a shot at Tony got 5 for fighting, 2 mins for unsportsmanlike conduct.

We only got 2 for fighting and a couple roughing calls.

Then with 5 mins left in the game they scored making it 4-1. Of course they thought it was greatest thing since sliced bread. We answered back with two more goals with in probably a min or two. Making it 6-1. The 3rd fight happened when the buzzer went off. Apparently they werent happy they lost because they started a HUGE line brawl. To which the two goalies went at it

Over all it was a very good game! And i hate to admit this but I've never been so happy to not play in my life. Two of the guys on that team have it out for me something fierce. Why? I have no idea. Other then the fact that in the first game we played against them this season one of their guys tripped over my stick and broke two fingers. Idk that wasnt my fault. I didnt set out to trip him..*shrugs* oh well all that matters is that we WON! Too bad we still have to face them in the play offs that start next weekend (thought it was this weekend but I was wrong lol)

After the game I was exhausted so Matty and I just went home. Saturday because it was fairly nice out I rode all day. Ponys were really good and happy to be out! Then around 7pm my moms bffs daughter and I pulled out the show tack (all 12 sets) and went to work cleaning and polishing. Got most of it done by the time they left at 11.30 pm. Then I watched Matt play some Halo/Fable 2 and passed out.

Today I started feeling shitty again so I took it easy. Matty helped me feed and clean stalls this morning which was SO nice! Then I played some Halo: Reach till mom got home from work. Then she helped me throw hay and bring the horses back in for the night. We're just kinda taking it easy today!

Tomorrow though I have to start getting the trailer ready to go to a show on saturday in Yakima Wa which is about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs from where I live. Our game friday is at 6 pm so Mom is going to drop me off at the rink at 4 pm, then pick up Matt and go back home to finish packing the trailer and truck and get the horses loaded up and then shes going to head to Yakima instead of waiting for me. Then Matty will drive back into town to watch the game then after the game we will head down to Yakima. Should be done by 8-8.30pm at the latest and that should put us in Yakima around 11.30pm-12am. Then I get to stay up all night cleaning the horses up, braiding and setting up and decorating our stalls. Maybe ill get an hr of sleep lol First class is at 8.30 am on saturday. My last class for saturday should be around 2 pm. Then I am passing the fuck out! (maybe) Then sunday I have 5 classes all in the AM then we can head right on home. Where I will die LOL

But yeah! Thanks guys for reading!

You know your a goalie when....

1. 45 seconds to 2 minute periods just aren't enough for you, you want to be out there the whole game

2. Whenever something falls you automatically snatch it

3. No matter how many times you scrub your palms you just can't get the smell out

4. After putting one or both of your leg pads on you realize...you need to go to the bathroom

5. ^You decided that it takes too long to take your pads off and put them back on so you just hold it, and you regret it.

6. You've become frustrated because you're trying to tell someone something but they can't hear you through your goalie mask.

7. You often curse at the opposing team, and sometimes your own team, because you know they can't hear you (thanks to #6)

8. When you see your team mate go into the penalty box you say some variation of "shit" and prepare for the onslaught

9. Back when you were first learning how to play goalie that stick felt like it was going to pull your arm out of it's socket halfway through practice

10. That stick isn't so heavy anymore, and you have quite a bit of muscle on your stick arm now

11. The first time you tried on your blocker you had the urge to punch someone in the face with it

12. There's an NHL goalie you model your game after

13. You most likely have videos of that goalie (#12) in action and you practice their moves whenever you can

14. Even though you may not like quite a few people on your team you're nice to them anyway, you know you need them to have your back during games

15. Your bag is bigger than everyone else's

16. You're sometimes asked if there's a dead body in your bag, it's that big. And it really smells.

17. Your goalie gear is often strewn about so it can dry

18. Your leg pads cost more than one of your teammates entire set of gear

19. Upon telling people you're an ice hockey goalie they either call you crazy or admire you for standing fearlessly in front of pucks that can be going up to 90mph. You could tell them that it doesn't hurt at all, but sometimes you don't ;)

20. You've made accidental glove saves but say you meant to do that

21. If your team has two goalies: even if you're good friends you secretly strive to be better than them. There's only 1 goal and 2 of you after all

22. Your goal is to stop theirs

23. Your parents car, or your car, has the goalie decal on the back of it

24. Your parents were horrified when they totaled up how much all your goalie gear cost.

25. When people talk about butterflies you're thinking of something completely different

26. When you see a player coming at you on a breakaway your first thought is "FUCK"

27. You watch Martin Brodeur and Tim Thomas in the goal and wonder how the hell they make saves the way they do

28. You're fully aware that if you tried to make saves like they do (see #27) it wouldn't work in your favor

29. At some point during a game you've gone into desperation mode, and you make some crazy saves

30. If you get hurt during the game you're probably not going to say anything, you'll tough out the pain and finish the game

31. You learned the hard way why two goalies shouldn't carpool together in a car. You now know a truck or van of some sort is required

32. When one of your pads isn't functioning the way it should during warm-ups before the game you're aware you're screwed. Your leg pads are usually the culprit

33. You feel a sense of smug satisfaction when you see a goalie who isn't as good as you

34. However sometimes you feel pity when they're really bad, you remember those days when you were too

35. The sound of pucks slamming into the wall doesn't make you jump anymore

36. You've become increasingly more patient throughout your goalie career. You've learned you need it

37. You've had a goalie coach that doesn't do much coaching

Team dinner turns ugly..

uhg...........thats all I can say is uhg and grrrrrr. So I went to our practice last night to help Tony out since I cant play atm due to being sick and he did very well! Dunno what he was so worried about lol So after practice 10 of us decide we're starved and Applebees sounds hella good.

So we pile into Mikeys 18 person van thing and head to applebees. We were having a good time. Talking and laughing about last weeks game and such. And just as were about done with our food guess who shows up! Thats right! Douche Bags from Post Falls! The same Douche bags we're facing friday.

We had a booth right near the front door so they didnt have to go looking for us plus we were REALLY loud...As usual lol Nothing new there. ANYWAY a bit of background here for those who dont know.

Our rivalry with this team started at the beginning of the season last year. This was the same game I got hurt....again....They are a really rough and dirty playing group of younger guys. And so it was the bottom of the 3rd and we were kicking their ass 9-2 and understandably they were pissed. Well instead of stepping up their game and trying to score they decide to play dirty. They had been rushing me in the crease pretty much all game and I had been good and let it go. But then this guy Darrel decided to slash me in the ribs. Well Big Mike beat the hell out of him which caused everyone to get involved. I was hurt and stuck in the middle so I couldnt get out. I just kinda hid in the goal lol So that game put me out for the rest of the season with broken ribs :(

So this year. We've lost to them all 3 times we played them not by more then one goal but still a loss and I guess they got big heads from it. So its pretty important we win friday. Not just for braging rights but because if we win they are out of the playoffs so we dont have to face them..And I was wrong friday isnt our first play off game. Its the last reg. season game lol

So back to the fight....So when they came over to us Big Mike, Tony and Alex all stood up and were like 'we dont want any trouble.' and they were like 'neither do we. we just came here with a warning.' I was like oh fuck. I could see Big Mike getting riled up. If you guys have ever watched Operation Repo the guy Matt on that show the big white guy add more muscles and less tattoos and you have Big Mike. And at 6'7 hes a big dude and built like a brick shit house. Looking at him you'd think football not hockey lol

So I jump up and try to break it up which only leads to their goalie getting in my face and basicly saying that I better prepare myself because they are going to crush me on friday. And I was like 'thats nice. too bad im not starting.' and the dude actually looked worried for a split second. I dont think they've seen Tony play at all so they have no idea just how good he is.

So i'm trying to break it up. But the DBs are clearly intending to start a fight in the middle of Applebees. So after about 10 mins and the managers stepping in and threatening to call the cops the DBs back off and are about to leave until their goalie said something that I didnt catch and before I could so much as blink Mike had him by the shirt.

So FINALLY when the managers threaten to call the cops the DBs leave but not without telling us to watch our asses on friday. *rolls eyes* I was beyond pissed at my team. Its like REALLY? How old are you?  I know they were just protecting me but damn it I can fend for myself thanks very much! Its the same way on the ice! Even if I wanted to fight my "protectors" wouldnt allow it...Which is probably a good thing but still! I wanna shove assholes around once in a while! LOL

But yeah...I did a shitty job of explaining what happend but I feel like hell right now so thats gunna have to do!

Love you guys...Thanks for reading my blog XD

Much loves,
Shell

Day 5 of being sick

So the last blog I posted was for yesterday I just didnt get it posted 'till this morning.

Anyway i'm feeling pretty good aside from my voice and the coughing.

Today I did a bunch of cleaning out in the barn. And apparently theres something im allergic to out there (prolly dust) and I sneezed hard like 8 times a row. I had one our yearlings Jasper in the crossties and it startled him pretty bad but he didnt totally freak out (rear up or run backwards)

His head just snapped up and he gave me this terrified look....Poor Jaspy,  I get to watch my team practice tonight so I will be leaving here in about 20 mins or so.

I also played a bit more of Fable II and a couple games of Halo Reach. Good stuff!

Anyway thats all I have for now sorry for the shortness :)

Sick ramblings

So this one wont be solely about hockey. But its something I want to share :)

So those of you who know us know that in 2009 we adopted out first wolf hybrid. We named him Jacob (yes after Jacob Black ONLY because he looks almost exactly like Jakes wolf form lol) hes been such an amazing dog. The only issue I've had is getting him up in the morning lol If it was up to him we'd lay in bed all day. Even now hes sprawled on the bed snoring. Silly wolf.

7 months later we brought his full sister Lilly home. Now 11 1/2 months. She was a bit of a challenge at first. She was very afraid of new people aside from my mom and I whom she'd gotten to know when we visiting Carol the gal who rescued them. Shes tolerable of our cats and her brother but the other two smaller dogs we have to watch because shes quick to growl at them and my grandfathers dog (chiwawa yes i know i spelt it wrong) is very much an alpha female. They are getting better but Lilly still cant be left around her alone. Which seems to be more then ok with her lol

We got Lilly to be Matts dog (my hubby) and she was very much his up until he got a job in town and stays in town durring the week. Now shes very much my dog. I dont mind tho. Shes less affectionate then Jake is and more needy which is nice where hes more of an independent wolf.

They both know that I am very much the alpha and they better toe my line or suffer lol jk But you cant train/disoplen a hybrid like a reg. dog and they most certainly are NOT for everyone. I got very lucky with these two. The only reason I took them is because we got along very well the first couple times we went to see them and both Lilly and Jake reconized me as alpha. Thats NOT to say Lilly dosnt test me because she does on a daily basis. But in some weird way its making our bond that much tighter.

For example. Today when I was out in the barn I left the pups in the yard. And I was out of her sight no more then 5 mins and she started this mournful, lonely howl even though her brother and her ducks (yes ducks) were in there with her. Jake wasnt too effected by his sisters anxiety but then hes use to me coming and going all day.

Ive herd them howl before but this was different and instantly I got worried so i  came out to check on them and you would've thought her long lost lover was returning lol she was yipping and running the fence line and carrying on like nothing else. I came in the back yard and she wasnt instantly all over me. Licking my face and whinning. Jake could careless lol He was sun bathing on the porch.

I have such a strange bond with this animal that it blows my mind. Shes also very protective of me..Not aggressive or anything but when Matt comes home and he sits on the couch next to me she will wedge herself in between us and whine that is until he gives her a bone and she could careless about me lol

I've been doing alot of work with Carols wolf rescue that im seriously debating on getting some kind of zoology degree. Wolves are such amazing creatures. Even the hybrids. Smart, smart, smart! If you own one my advice to you is DO NOT let them get bored lol They will find ways to keep themselves entertained!

On another kind of wild animal note. I rode our newest mustang last week! Well rode as in sat on him bareback in the round pen and he didnt kill me lol jk No I climbed on him bareback and he walked on without my asking. I was so shocked he didnt shoot out from under  me (much like Foster did the first time I got on him bareback) I forgot to stop him and make him stand lol His name is Sparta (love that name) hes a dun BLM Mustang we adopted from Oregon in Sept. and ive worked really hard wit him all winter and he surprised me!

Mustangs are another kind of "taboo" animal I love. We got our first in Aug of 2008 and from the moment he stepped off that trailer I was in love! Three years later Matty and I are the proud parents of three wild ones! All geldings and i'm hoping on finding a nice filly to add to the band and maybe consider adding to our breeding program!

When I got hurt in Canada at 18 I thought my life was over. What good was I if I couldnt play hockey? Well I think i've found it. Animals! All animals love me. Dogs, cats, birgs, rats, horses, goats, chickens etc. I love working with problem horses. I.E. abused or neglected horses. Theres something about getting a horse thats been treated so badly by humans back to health and to have him truth you that warms my heart.

All 8 of my horses aside from the 3 wild ones are rescues. We've rehabed and taught them that not ALL humans are evil. I prefer to buy from whats already on the market instead of breed. Dont get me wrong we still breed horses but on a MUCH different scale then we use to. We usually have only 1-2 foals every other year from our mares. Other wise I get too over whelmed and end up not being able to spend quality time with everyone.

If your curious I share a house hold with my 87 yr old grandfather and my mom. My job is to keep an eye on the old man and pretty much run his breeding business so he dosnt have to give up his stock. But mostly just keep an eye on him because of his health which isnt too good. Better then he was even 4 months ago thanks to a pacemaker. My mom is a RN at a nursing home in Spokane Wa (50 miles away). So im helping her out as well.

Plus in all honestly with 8 horses I cant afford even a $400/month apt. Even with what Matt makes working at Culligan. It does suck that we only see each other on the weekends but its better then nothing.

I got lucky with Matt. He puts up with so much from me and yet we get along extremely well. Sure we fight but its over pretty much as soon as it starts lol We get alone really well and have way too much fun together. And hes supportive of EVERYTHING I have on my plate. From the horses to hockey.

Pretty much all of ex's were REALLY clingy and wanted allllllllllllllllll of my attention allllllllllllll the time and it drove me up the wall! I'm very independent and enjoy having ME time. Something Matt is totally fine with. I dont cuddle unless im sick or really tired and he dosnt seem to mind. Which is nice! No guilt trips!

Also my teammates even on the beer league team I play are very important to me and he understands that and dosnt get possessive or jealous (aside from the fact most are married or have a g/f) and he gets along with them all very well almost too well. Which is also nice.

Saturday was Matts 23rd bday and we had our friends and 5 guys from the team out for a bbq and a night of video games. It was good times even though I was sick. Watching the boys play Left 4 Dead 2 was epic wins lol

Bullshit WIN and a sick goalie

Hey guys. So let me start by apologizing for this being two days later then I said it would be. After the game friday I was so sick. Had 102 almost 103 fever so right after the game we went to the ER. Turns out I have strep throat, and laryngitis AND the start of bronchitis :( So i'm pretty sick. After we got home from the ER it was 3 am and I took a quick shower and laid down and died for about 22 straight hrs. So this is why your getting this so late. I'm so sorry guys. I really did plan on doing it when I got home but I felt so terrible and my husband sent me to bed lol

So we won. And your prolly wondering by the title why I call it a Bullshit WIN. Well because thats what it was. We won 9-8. Probably our worst game yet. Half the team was sick, the other half was hung over (yeah..coach wasnt happy) Seriously I have no idea how we pulled off an OT win. We should've lost but somehow we pulled it off.

So there was some discussion on weither I would start or not. But in the end I felt good enough to play so they let me. Tony was very concerned of course and kept offering to play for me..Part of me REALLY wanted to take him up on his offer but the other part of me refused to give in to being sick. I mean its not the first time ive played REALLY sick.

So the first period. We scored about 2 mins in. then again 5 mins later. Then for the rest of the 1st it was 2-0. Until they scored with 45 seconds left. This one was a total fuck up goal on my part. I read the play wrong and totally missed it...So end of 1st 2-1.

During the 5 min intermission while they scraped the ice I took cough meds and drank almost a full bottle of water.

This is where it got ugly. They ended up scoring 4 goals. We got 5. At the end of the 2nd the score was 7-5. Durring the intermission I started to feel better so I got a wee bit cocky.

The 3rd period was a crap shoot. We got 1 goal in the first 3 mins. BOOM top shelf. Moving the score to 8-5. Then they scored 3 to tie it up. The last 3 were because I was just plan exhausted. Not for lack of trying I just didnt have enough strength to be quick like I needed to be.

So they tie it up 8-8 forcing a 5 min overtime.

I was really nervous and tempted to let Tony play for me because by this point I was exhausted and my coughing was getting very bad not to mention I was having alot of trouble catching my breath. But I decided to finish what I started (stupidly)

This time my team pulled their heads out of each others asses and actually played the damn game! I saw 8 shots in OT. The other teams goalie saw 15, one being a goal. We scored with 55 seconds left. It was great! For us.....LOL

As for the roughness that I was worried about. OH it was there! x15! It was crazy! Everyone was out for blood. Everyone but me it seemed lol I was too sick to care really. I did get a roughing penalty tho. On number 23 the same guy who punched me in the side of the head hehe...Dude got triped by his own teammate and slid into goal where I proceeded to beat him up Patric Roy style! The penalty came because I shoved him after he got up and he went crying to the ref. I barely touched him. Pussy. LOL

But yeah...We played like poop! I had no defense pretty much the entire game. The forwards just stood there and let them take shots from the red line. I was constantly screened by my own teammates. We seemed to be more focused on getting pay back then actually playing to win. I'm not innocent in that, but I only had one incident :)

So i'm grounded from hockey this week. Including out first play off game Thursday. Which is fine with me. Tonys itching to play even if he wont admit it.

So anyway...Theres your blog for Friday. Sorry its kinda short and choppy but i'm typing fast cuz im starting to not feel good again so I need to go lay back down!

Hope everyone else who had games this weekend had WINS with lotsa BIG SAVES!

Best,

Shell
